| The factory was established in 1397H (1977) at the Industrial
City in Jeddah. The factory receives crude salt from the
Salt Works by trucks and then refines it to make table salt,
edible salt, as well as industrial salt. The Saudi Salt
Refinery's starting capacity was 7,500 MT per year. Since
then, the factory has expanded three times: once in the year
1400H (1980), once in 1405H (1985), and once in 1416H (1996),
which determined the current capacity of 100,000 MT per year.
These expansions were due to increased demand in the local
market, increased demand in GCC countries, and especially due to
the need for salt used in the mud-drilling for oil by the Saudi
ARAMCO company. |
